This position is located with the Bureau of Emergency Medical Service and Trauma.
Performs all duties related to the certification of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), EMT Instructors, and non-credentialed ambulance attendants/drivers. Provide guidance to the regulated community, potential candidates, and general public. Process customer inquiries regarding the South Carolina EMT certification and re-certification process, out-of-state reciprocity, and Non-Credential Ambulance Operator/Driver(s) in a professional and timely manner.
Ensure compliance with Department's EMT certification process. Assist with daily download, review, and recordapproval of SLED/AFIS criminal background checks with established Department policy.Verify eligibility of certification/re-certification status with high degree of accuracy. Ensure all required documents associated with EMT certification/re-certification are present, accurate, and correct prior to completing the certification process. Receive, complete, and process Out-of-State Verification [or its equivalent] Request(s), Replacement Card Request(s), and Non-Credentialed Driver or Name Change Request(s) within seven (7) business days. Print, assemble, and mail all certifications processed within one (1) business day. Identify and resolve conflicts regarding EMT certification or non-credentialed driver(s).
Maintain and complete allrequirements associated with SC CJIS access,Department SIPS Invoice access, andthe EMT Credentialing database (i.e. Continuum? or is successors). Assist staff with general clerical duties as necessary by covering main office phone during normal working hours,preparation of mass mailings, filing, copying, scanning, etc., andescorting visitor's during Department scheduled events (i.e. quarterly meetings, interviews, etc.). Participates in disaster preparedness as outlines in the DHEC plan during hazardous weather or declaration of emergency and designated as an essential employee and subject to duty and/or call on a 24-hour basis. State Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and relevant program experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the regulated community, exercise judgment and discretion in interpreting and applying policies. Must have the skills necessary to effectively plan, organize, and prioritize task completion. Must be able to communicate effectively.

DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver's license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
