The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) professional staff is seeking a full-time supervisory Physician to be the Clinic Director for the Agave Clinic and Homeless - Patient Aligned Care Team (H-PACT). The Agave Clinic and H-PACT are part of the Mental Health Service and provide primary care to Veterans with serious mental illness and those experiencing homelessness, respectively. The incumbent will report directly to the Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health.

The SAVAHCS offers a beautiful 150-acre campus with a full range of medical and mental health services for veterans, including a 31-bed inpatient psychiatry unit, a 25-bed mental health residential rehabilitation program, intensive outpatient programs, homeless programs, and more. The SAVAHCS Mental Health Service is comprised of over 235 multidisciplinary professionals working together to provide a full range of mental health care, homeless services and primary care for Veterans. The selected candidate will serve as the Clinic Director of Agave Clinic and H-PACT at the SAVAHCS main campus in Tucson, AZ. The selected physician will also provide comprehensive clinical care to a reduce panel of adult patients, from young adult to elderly, with serious mental illness. The physician will provide clinical direction and administrative supervision to 4 PACT teams within the Mental Health Service. The physician will directly supervise 2 physicians, 2 nurse practitioners, 3 social workers, and the Agave Nurse Manager.

The physician and his/her team will support Veteran health care goals and patient satisfaction. The selected physician will achieve quality care standards, order appropriate diagnostic testing, prescribe medications, consult with specialty services and document care in computerized/electronic medical records. The selectee will provide team guidance in patient care in accordance with professional standards, core values and commitment to service excellence using the VA's Patient Aligned Care Team 'medical home' model.

The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring clinic operations, supporting and leading clinic staff in implementing Veteran's Health Administration and the SAVAHCS initiatives and achieving organizational goals. The physician selectee will support hiring, orientation, retention, appraisals, and disciplinary matters for the staff assigned to him/her. The supervisor will attend weekly Mental Health Service (MHS) supervisor meetings as part of the MHS Executive Leadership Team, will oversee weekly Agave Clinic staff meetings, will serve on the MHS SAIL Workgroup, and will serve on other committees as requested.

The physician also serves as the attending physician for psychiatry residents from the University of Arizona Psychiatry Residency Program on their primary care clinical rotations; therefore, the candidate must be able to attain an affiliate appointment with the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Board Eligible/Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine is preferred.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. If selected for this position you must meet specific individual eligibility requirements, and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services Office.
