At the 12 level, this position performs the following duties as a senior level accountant: Responsible for reviewing, monitoring, analyzing, balancing, and correcting assigned funds; completing quarterly DTMB-OFM interim assessments; assisting in all aspects of year-end closing; preparing interim and annual financial reports and financial statements; preparing various statutorily required reports. In addition, this position is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and/or approving complex journal vouchers, which requires a thorough understanding of all SIGMA general ledger and coding elements. This position is responsible for researching accounting problems and transactions using BI reports and specialized BI queries, and updating and maintaining SIGMA profile structures. This position also acts as a liaison with the divisions in providing guidance and assistance regarding accounting processes.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting.

Experience

Accountant 9

Accountant 10
One year of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports equivalent to an Accountant 9 or Auditor 9.

Accountant P11
Two years of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports, including one year equivalent to an Accountant 10, Auditor 10, or Assistant Auditor General 10.

Accountant 12
Three years of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports, including one year equivalent to an Accountant P11.

Alternate Education and Experience

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certification (CPA) may be substituted for one year of Accountant P11 experience.

OR
Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of Accountant P11 experience.

Leave Time

Full time employees receive between 15 and 35 vacation leave days per year. Employees also receive 13 sick days per year, and employees receive 8 hours of leave to participate in certain school functions or community activities. Employees may also qualify for up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for certain family or medical situations.

Holidays

State employees receive 12 scheduled holidays each year, which include New Years Eve Day and New Years Day, Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day just to name a few.

Insurance and Other Benefits

Insurances include health, vision, dental and life. Employees also have the option to purchase additional life, accidental death, long term disability, long term care insurance, and legal services. Flexible spending accounts for medical expenses and child care are also available.

Deferred Compensation

Employees may invest income in a tax-deferred retirement investment program. The state offers two optional deferred compensation plans, the 457 and 401(k). Employees decide the amount you want deducted from your paycheck.

Retirement

Employees receive a minimum 4% state contribution toward their retirement fund. If an employee elects to contribute more, the state will match that percentage (up to 3%).
