DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Maintenance Mechanic III controls the efficient operation of all equipment by performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repairs and modifications, along with the preventative maintenance. Maintenance will be performed on small engine equipment, electro-mechanical equipment, structures, facilities and systems. Repairs and maintains all types of pumps, including hydraulic, reciprocating and rotary equipment. Additional maintenance activities include manual and automatic doors, graphics, plumbing and drains, and operating two-way radios. May act as lead person and perform some supervisory duties. "Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required."
Performing these duties will involve: lifting, pulling or pushing objects; observing and differentiating details; operating city vehicles; operating power and hand tools; applying specialized information; and working in hot, cold, noisy environments; dealing with people in tense situations and working as a member of the team; may be required to lift up to eighty (80) pounds. Walking and standing for extended periods of time. Must be willing and available to work shifts, including rotation, weekends and holidays.
Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required. Must have a valid Texas driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
One year of experience in building or mechanical maintenance is required.
May require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in reading blueprints as they relate to repair and replacement of major components, accessories, and subsystems. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with subordinates, supervisors and the public.
