Department: Libraries

Location: Land O' Lakes

General Description: Specialized clerical and related work in providing assistance in the various services provided by the County Libraries. Employees assigned to positions in this classification work in areas such as public services, receiving, serials control, conversion, interlibrary loans, supplies, processing, cataloging support, or similar units.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES: All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an Emergency. During an Emergency employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.

Essential Job Functions

Charges and discharges library materials following established policies and procedures. Notifies patrons of overdue materials and outstanding fines. Collects and posts fines and fees. Prepares deposit records and deposits money as assigned. Records daily statistics. Receives materials sent from Support Services and reorders them for shelving. Locates correct bibliographic records for items to be converted. Proofreads for accuracy and assigns identifying machine-readable label to item. Places requests for materials held in libraries in response to patron needs. Fills requests for materials held in a library in response to other libraries' needs. Prepares and processes library materials for circulation to the public. Performs minor repairs to damaged materials. Prepares items to be sent to the bindery and checks returned items. Performs related work as required.

  • Knowledge of general office procedures.

  • Knowledge of and ability with business mathematics and English.
  • Analytical ability sufficient to solve somewhat complex problems.
  • Ability to work with patrons and explain library policies and procedures.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and the general public.
  • Ability to learn and apply complex automated procedures and to utilize computer equipment and software in performance of day-to-day work.
  • ABILITY TO WORK EVENINGS AND SATURDAYS.
Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to lift and/or move up to35 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects.May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Requires frequent standing, walking, reaching and stooping. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. One year of experience working with computer terminals and/or microcomputers and software. One year of experience performing general office and/or clerical work.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid driver's license.
