Basic Function

This job posting is available to the City of SeaTac employees only. This position is overtime eligible and a member of the AFSCME Collective Bargaining Unit.

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager or Maintenance Worker 2, the employee occupying this position will perform responsible maintenance and repair of City buildings and structures. Duties include painting, repair of damaged surfaces, plumbing repair and minor electrical repair.

Representative Duties

?Perform a variety of responsible maintenance, repair, alteration and installation tasks for City buildings and associated structures involving painting, masonry, carpentry and other manual skills. Repair damaged surfaces; replace worn or broken parts; replace broken windows. Operate specialized hand and power driven equipment to perform duties. E

?Repair and repaint damaged drywall surfaces, paint walls, doors and associated surfaces. Install new hardware, light bulbs, electrical switches and outlets. Replace ballasts in florescent light fixtures. E

?Maintain plumbing fixtures in working order. Clean clogged drains and sewer lines.

?Perform minor maintenance to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment such as changing filters, thermostat and batteries. E

?Respond to emergency clean-up of accidental spills, using appropriate infection control materials and techniques. Occasionally perform small amounts of surface cleaning. Repair or replace items that may present safety hazards to employees or the public. E

?Operate a variety of hand and power driven equipment, including backhoe, forklift, hydrocrane, manlift, skillsaw, drill motors, rotohammer, sawzall, jackhammer, router, paint sprayer, sander, grinder, cutoff saw, screwgun, impact wrench, tablesaw, nailgun, and powder actuated nailer. E

?Inspect building and equipment on a regular basis, make necessary repairs and modifications as needed and reports damage to supervisor. Repair or replace locks. Set up rooms for different City events, lock and unlock buildings. E

?Set up new office space to tenant's specifications. Assist with the installation of modular office and wall systems.

?May remove snow or debris from sidewalks, entryways and driveways of buildings. E

?Respond to emergency call-out situations as necessary. E

?Perform related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

?Graduation from high school or GED
?Two years of experience in facilities or public works maintenance, repair and construction work
?A combination of experience and training that provides the applicant with the knowledge and skills to perform the essential functions of the position will be considered.
?Methods, equipment and materials used to maintain City structures
?Health and safety regulations and procedures
?Knowledge of operation and maintenance of hand and power tools and related construction
?Knowledge of construction trades including concrete, wood and steel framing, drywall, painting, plumbing and minor electrical work
?Ability to perform repairs and maintenance on City buildings
?Ability to perform heavy and demanding physical labor
?Ability to operate hand and power tools and other equipment used in facilities maintenance
?Ability to observe health and safety regulations
?Ability to operate a variety of hand or power tools and equipment
?Ability to perform basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
?Ability to follow written and oral directions
?Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others

Licenses and Other Requirements

?Valid Washington State Driver's License
?A three year driving record abstract must be submitted prior to hire. Some positions in this classification require a Class A driver's license with an air brake endorsement or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
?Some positions within this classification require a valid First-aid certificate.

Indoor and outdoor work environment; subject to driving a vehicle to conduct work, exposure to noise and fumes from equipment operation, adverse weather conditions, and regular exposure to dust.

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment and hand and power tools, standing for extended periods of time, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching, crawling, digging, climbing ladders and working from heights, lifting, carrying and pushing objects weighing up to eighty (80) pounds.

Fumes from chemicals, paints and equipment operation, working in a cramped or restrictive work area, working around and with machinery having moving parts, working at heights, and working in adverse weather conditions.

  • Accrue 8 hours of sick leave per month
