Job Summary

The Finance Department currently has an opening for a skilled Accountant to join our team. The Accountant position performs accounting and financial reporting, as well as analytical and administrative functions. This position is part of the Financial Reporting Section which is responsible for internal and external financial reporting, project/cost accounting, grant accounting, accounts payable, general ledger reconciliations, and maintaining capital asset records. The work is completed in a collaborative environment with competing priorities and multiple interruptions.

The City of Salem is a full-service municipality and is the capital of the State of Oregon. The City provides a full range of municipal services, including water/wastewater/stormwater utilities, police, fire protection, public works, municipal court, airport, economic development, community planning and development, parks and recreation, and a library. The Urban Renewal Agency of the City of Salem is a separate municipal corporation responsible for Salem's urban renewal areas. The Finance Department provides a full range of financial services to the City and Urban Renewal Agency and internal/external customers with professionalism and integrity. Financial services include accounting and financial reporting, treasury management, debt management, and financial analysis.

What are the minimum qualifications?

  • Must pass the pre-employment background check
  • May be required to have an Oregon Driver's license and be able to meet the City of Salem's driving standards
  • Associates degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or related field and three years of experience in accounting, business administration, or finance; or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the examples of work.
